Yesterday (Sunday, April 3), during our worship time, we were challenged to not complain all week long, but instead be thankful. I decided to accept the challenge!! Almost immediately upon going outside to walk the dogs when I got home, I realized I was about to complain to myself about the heat!! WOW - it's amazing how much our society complains about everything - it appears to be quite a cultural thing for us and most accepted.
In the lesson we heard yesterday, we were reminded of the Israelites and their 40 year journey to make an 11-day trip and how many of them were not allowed to cross into the Promised Land. The primary reason for this was because they murmured and complained about everything along the way. It really makes you think - listen to yourself and others as you converse throughout the day and see how much complaining we encounter throughout our day. The amazing thing to me is that everybody thinks it's quite normal! No wonder many people are wondering around with no direction and no clear vision.
Today is Day 2 of my week-long challenge and I must say, when you look at things through "thankful" eyes instead of "complaining" eyes, the grass seems greener, the colors of the flowers are more vivid and even the weeds are particularly lovely today!
